The following rules and policies are for United Earth Starfleet (UES) and the sims following its shared canon. These sims currently included Antares (NX-11) and Apollo Base (FOB-1).
- All members of the community are expected to be a part of what we strive to make not only a writing group but a family. As part of this family, all are expected to have mutual respect for each other and while constructive criticism is encouraged being rude and being intolerant is not acceptable.
- All members are expected to follow the activity requirements as described below.
- All members of the sim must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or older to join.
- Our acceptable adult content rating is 323, as defined per the RPG Rating System:
- Any member of the sim found to have been anything but truthful with identity or age will be removed and banned from the sim.
- The UES Staff are not responsible for content posted by a member but has the right to moderate it at any time.
- Members of the UES Staff are the leaders of the community and have the final say in all matters, with the final decision resting with the Game Manager (GM).
- Any guidance to community or sim operations listed on the rules page of the website shall be considered standard operating procedure unless otherwise announced by the UES Staff.
- Anyone who is actively using the UES website, Discord server, or any other service agrees to follow the rules and regulations regardless of membership status.
- All members of UES are members of the 22nd Fleet and subject to the fleet’s charter and bylaws as listed on their website.
All members of a UES Sim, regardless of position, are required to login to their respective NOVA systems at the very least once every seventy-two (72) hours and to update any joint posts they are involved in unless otherwise stated between those involved. It is expected that each member has a part in at least two completed posts per month. As we understand that this is a hobby and not a game, a leave of absence may be declared by a member at any time. Any member who routinely disregards the activity requirements or has received complaints from other members regarding lack of activity may be removed from active membership.
All members of the community will also be expected to participate in the Out of Character community and development of UES. All members are required to join and are highly encouraged to participate in our Discord server as often as possible.
Members of the Game Staff will have additional activity requirements.
If a person wishing to take on a minor role with reduced activity requirements may contact the Game Master. Requests will be reviewed on a case by case basis and require approval by the Game Staff.
Leave of Absence
While this is a great hobby, it is a hobby nonetheless and sometimes we have other things that need to be accomplished. While we do have specific activity guidelines that we expect members to follow, we understand that sometimes you cannot participate and ask that all members communicate their needs to the Game Staff.
Leave of Absence – A period of up to fourteen (14) days of no or restricted activity.
Extended Leave of Absence – A period of no less than fourteen (14) days of no or restricted activity lasting up until one (1) month. Any ELOA that extends past one (1) month of time must be approved by the GM.
Hiatus – A member in good standing for at least three (3) months may request a hiatus in place of resignation. A Hiatus is an indefinite leave of absence in which the character will be removed from their sim, however, the member will retain access to the community and may return at any time with the same character or a new one based on availability or preference.
The Game Staff may approve a member requesting an Extended Leave of Absence this status if they do not meet the time requirement for good standing. In this case, the member will have a deadline to return or their membership will be terminated.
Other Info & Guidelines
The UES Staff is lead by the Game Manager (GM) who is the final authority on all matters regarding the group. The GM is assisted by a(n) Assistant Game Manager(s) (AGM) who are assigned responsibilities by the GM. Unlike most sims, however, the members of the staff are not linked to any IC position. IC rank/position has no relation to the administration and operation of the community.
In the event of a Leave of Absence or Emergency Situation where the Game Manager is unavailable, they should make all attempts to have a plan to delegate authority to the Assistant Game Manager(s). In the event that the GM is unable to leave an LOA plan with the AGM(s), the (senior) AGM shall assume temporarily full authority as GM. At the time of the GM’s return, they will resume their authority as GM with the delegated authority returned to them unless otherwise directed by the GM.
Characters must be of an appropriate species to the era and alternate universe that occurs on UES Sims that would be a member of Starfleet. Please check the database for any references or contact a member of the staff for any questions regarding this policy. Accepted species include but are not limited to: Humans, Vissians, Denobulans, Vulcans (Outcasts/Refugees/Earth Sympathizers), and Risians. Please note that due to the nature and era of our community and our alternate universe, the staff reserves the right to and may restrict multiple characters within the same species, except of course Humans.
Characters who are genetically modified, have weird species combinations, or have “special abilities” will not be accepted. Human Augments and telepaths from nontelepathic species will not be considered. Species that are restricted from UES include, but are not limited to: Q, Borg, Breen, Androids, Xindi, Suliban, Bynar, species indigenous to the Gamma or Delta Quadrants, Species 8472, Romulans, Klingons, non-corporeal species, and non-humanoid species such as Tribble or Horta.
Starfleet and MACO operate as separate entities. As such, there is no crossover in their manifests.
Rank & Position
All characters will be given a position and rank that is appropriate to their level of experience and age. Ranks are solely used in-characters, and have no standing within the community.
Members of UES shall be permitted per sim one primary playing character, one additional linked Non-Playing Character (NPC) that holds the grade of E-7 or higher, and then any additional NPC linked to their account E6 or below. Only the Primary Character may hold a command/department head level position. Other specific positions that are normally limited to one person may be also be restricted at the discretion of the staff. Individual NPC limits may be imposed by the staff as they see fit. Staff are exempt from character limits and may also grant exceptions for specific mission roles.
MACO and mission specific characters do not count toward a member’s character account.
Please remember that while this is a fiction, we aim to have a high-quality storyline written in the novel style. Please remember that while we as writers are privileged to know what is going on at all times, characters would only be aware of things if told or present and can’t mind read. In addition, this game is based off a military organization. Characters do not have to follow all orders or regulations and procedures, however, should those characters be caught, IC punishment is applicable.
Members who are removed must reapply and no guarantee for position or re-acceptance will be made. Any member who resigns from the sim will note that their character may be used IC until it is convenient for them to leave the ship. This is done in order to maintain a good quality story with full continuity.
Members who resign in good standing have the option of taking a hiatus. See leave of absence.
Any creative content created and/or submitted for use by UES will become the intellectual property of UES and modified as used as the game staff sees fit regardless of membership status. All content will be credited appropriately, however it will be the responsibility of the creator to ensure that contact information such as email addresses or website addresses are kept up to date.
Three Strike Policy
In order to help enforce sim rules and activity policies, United Earth Starfleet will follow a three strike system. A strike may be issued to a member for failure to follow a policy of the sim, such as the activity policy or for failing to comply with the command team’s requests or instructions on a sim matter. Strikes will be in effect for 90 days and clear automatically. If a subsequent strike is issued, the 90 day time period will reset and each strike will clear consecutively. The following is the policy on each strike and its consequences:
• Strike One – Warning; no further action taken.
• Strike Two – Restriction; member will become ineligible for awards (except service awards), promotion (rank/assignment), or to be given any other additional privileges aboard the sim. An Assistant Game Manager will lose their AGM status until all strikes are cleared, reinstatement optional.
• Strike Three – Member will be removed from the simulation immediately and will not be considered for application until all three strikes have cleared.
All members of the sim who have been issued a strike have the right to appeal the strike to the Game Manager within seventy-two hours via email.
While United Earth Starfleet has members all over the world in order to keep everyone on the same page the official timezone used for any announcements will be the Eastern Standard or Eastern Daylight Savings Time. For the purpose of a world clock: New York, NY is the location that could be used to accurately depict time.
