Personality & Traits

General Overview Josiah’s father imposed negative tendencies into his personality such as impatience and a short temper. Josiah has been able to keep these in check, but there are times that he just can’t stop himself. Josiah is a social person, and will sometimes do anything to please a crowd. Josiah is a smart person, and is perfectly capable of being a well-behaved person, yet, some of the time, he does not wish to.

Personal History Josiah is the eldest son of a Miami family that was neither rich nor poor. His father was a skilled, but overworked, computer technician while his mother was a stay-at-home mom. Josiah found it difficult to grow up in his early years as his father was never satisfied with his current job. The result was living in a different city every four months for a period of ten years. During this time, Christopher was born. The constant moving created a rift in the family, primarily between his parents.

Ultimately, Josiah’s mother took action; divorcing Jacob. Dozens of court fees and lawyer bills later, his mother won full custody of the kids and moved back to Miami. Finally able to settle down, Josiah could now begin to make friends. He made many, yet the impatient personality traits inherited from his father earned him many enemies. After a fight during his freshman year at high school that resulted in expulsion, Josiah realized that he needed to change.

The new Josiah went to a different public school for the remainder of the year, then returned to the original school. His old friends and enemies were still there, as were plenty of opportunities to resume his original lifestyle. Josiah resisted, and was able to make a new name for himself, as well as gain respect from his former enemies. Sensing a need to leave the city anyway, Josiah applied and was accepted to Starfleet Academy. Josiah soon fell in love with all things engineering, and developed a fondness for warp propulsion.

Upon graduation, Josiah first found assignment aboard the Bonchune, an Intrepid-class vessel assigned to patrol two lightyears around Earth. While aboard, he heard of Enterprise’s tales and adventures. Josiah quickly grew tired of patrol duty, and jumped on the first chance to get further out into the unknown. The Franklin, a small Warp-4 vessel, became his destination, even though that was barely fifty light years away from Earth. It eventually became clear to Josiah that if he were to get his desires, he’d have to stay close to the action, namely the construction of several other Warp-5 vessels.

Josiah’s career, it seemed, took a step backward when he requested reassignment to Earth’s shipyards, ultimately being assigned to the team that was constructing the Challenger. Josiah took the change in stride and used every inch of it to his advantage. He was able to get a look at the warp drive far more closely than even the academy would allow. His dedication and quick study earned him a coveted spot aboard the NX class starship. He would remain on board the Challenger for two full years, moving as high up through the ranks as opportunity allowed.

As much as Josiah enjoyed his job, he often clashed with the AENG and ENG over differences on maintaining the warp drive. Both officers were conservative, not willing to push the limits of their warp drive more than what the specifications recommended. Josiah was forced to transfer for at least his own sanity, moving laterally to the Falcon. Just a mere five months later, the Falcon was ambushed by Nausicaans, and it was the ENG’s willingness to push the warp drive past its limits that saved the starship. Five crewmembers, including the AENG, had died during the attack, creating the opening that Josiah had long sought. For the next 3 years, Josiah performed his duties faithfully, even taking extra shifts and assignments just to stay close to the action.

Alas, all good things must eventually come to an end. Josiah was soon recommended for an ENG opening on the Antares.
